Empowering Men with Mental Illness — The Parker J Cole Show

Parker J Cole BannerLast month, we focused on women’s empowerment in different areas of life — from purity, to boundary settings, Biblical studies, and in the midst of illness. This month, we will be focusing on men’s empowerment in different areas. So join me for a series of discussions to empower men.

On this episode of the Parker J Cole, we’ll be empwering men who suffer from mental illness. The number of cases of people who have mental illness of some sort has increased over the past years. Men who have mental illness may feel pressured to keep that aspect of themsleves private, not take needed medication, or may have problems with understanding how to control the illness instead of letting it control them. We’ll be answering all of those questions and scenarios with my guest co host and contributor John Kaniecki, author, pastor, and activist who has biopolar disorder.

Empowering Men about Manhood — The Parker J Cole Show

Manhood. What exactly is it? Is it the comedic image of men grabbing a woman by the hair and dragging her off into a cave? Is it the suave, smooth operater with a number of slots on a bedpost to denote the number of women he has conquered in the bedroom? Perhaps manhood is the autocratic view of Father Knows Best or even the dominant view of Christian Grey. What is manhood?

Sometime grief encompasses the loss of financial income and stability, personal goals, and other things. However, even in the changing culture of gender roles, men are still expected to be strong and resilent. Yet sometimes, grief can be hard to get over.

You may be wondering why we are focusing on men becoming disciples. Are men and women suppose to be disciples? Of course! I am not making one gender more responsbile for discipleship than the other. But since this is men’s empowerment month, we’ll talking about it from a man’s perspective and will explore it from a woman’s perspective later.

What does being a disciple mean? Is it church membership or something more? Brad Francis, author and teacher will empower men on how ot be disciples of Christ and to take it from a biblical standpoint. Empowering Women Through Spoken Words — The Parker J Cole Show

Parker J Cole BannerAs a writer, I appreciate the power of words. Not in a mystical sense where each word has some sort of magical element to it. But I understand how words can wound, uplift, and energize individuals. Words create images in the mind and take a reader to a far of place. They can lock us in the grip of terror or put us in the cusps of a wonderful relationship. In life, words can be extremely powerful.
To end our segment on women’s empowerment, we’re joined with guest Anita Azeem all the way from Pakistan. In this interview, Anita Azeem discusses her life as a Christian in Pakistan, the differences between the Western view of family and the Eastern view, and so much more…especially about the power of words.

The Parker J Cole Show — Empowering Women in the Midst of Illness

Parker J Cole BannerElizabeth Chalker is no stranger to illness. She has been suffering from a debilitating disease for years. From being on the fast track in life and success to dealing with chronic pain and fatigue every day, no one would be more surprised to hear bitterness and resentment from her lips.

I called her book, ‘Hanging on by the Scratch Marks my Nails Left Behind’ a book that is open heart surgery for the soul. When pain wracks your body and no one seems to get it. When the doctors can’t figure out what to do, and medicine gives no ease, how can you be empowered?
